Slum dog Millionaire - A Terror attack on Indian BPO, Tourism and on our country India

This is what this movie shows :

Indian BPO :

  1. Even the person who supplies tea attends the calls in Indian contact centers.
  2. Indian Call center people lies all the time.
  3. In Indian call centers, anyone walking in to the floor can access the database, and get all the info about the clients (which includes home phone numbers, amount of money in each account etc)

Indian Tourism :

  1. The tourist guides you find in Indian historic places like Taj Mahal etc, knows nothing about the history and they tell lies and stores, which they build, to the visitors
  2. And, almost any one can become a tourist guide
  3. In India, even the kids cheat foreigners.
  4. If you park your car in a lonely place, the car would be dismantled and everything (except  the body) would be stolen with in minutes !!!
  5. The above vanishing act would be performed by kids
  6. You can’t leave even your footwear out side an Indian heritage place – it would be stolen.

Crime

  1. Indians are ready to kill even their own brother for a night with a girl.
  2. Indians are ready to do any crime for money and female
  3. Indian police are famous for chasseing  poor children kilometers
  4. You can kidnap a girl even in one of the busiest railway stations in India, even in day time.  No one will even ask anything.(Police are busy chasing children)
  5. Getting a loaded gun is an easy task for a teenager, by selling stuffs in trains (and know who is Samuel Clot)
  6. During communal conflicts, children are dressed up as Hindu Gods, and stands in the corner of streets.
  7. All Indian men, except the hero, are cruel, and they are mad for drug, money and women.
  8. Indian police can arrest (or rather Kidnap) anyone, anytime and troche them in all the possible ways, including electric shocks
  9. If any crime/abuse is happening for an Indian child, US People are the only hope !!(dialogs is something like “oh!! My son…let me show the real face of America” and give few dollars to the abused child)

India :

  1. US dollar is the currency more widely used in India.  Even a blind boy can recognize it by just touching it once.
  2. Indian class rooms are a big mess, and teachers are monsters !!
  3. India is a cricket crazy country.  If any one disturbs them while watching cricket, they go ballistic.
  4. Though Indians are mad about cricket, they don know nothing about “First Class Cricket”
  5. Indian super stars are villains in real life.
  6. Indian super starts cheats in real life.
  7. Poor people are abused, even if prove their capabilities in a Reality show.
  8. Indians are ready to be covered from head to toe in human Sh*t, just for an autograph from a Super star.
  9. Indians watch TV shows by sitting in road side.
  10. People traveling on the top of train is a usual scene in this country
  11. Indian talks in term of “Millions”, & “Billions” – not in term of Lakhs and Crores
  12. Well, how is Mahatma Gandhi ?  Indians know only  Benjamin Franklin, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis

This movie should be treated as a terror attack towards India, since it will have major impact on Indian tourism, Indian BPO business and image of India.  Do not watch this movie, since it will only give more finical benefit to the people who done this crime.

When “The Passion of the Christ”, was released, we saw a massive protest all over the country.  When a carton was published in Denmark, we saw similar protest in this country.  MF Hussein painting created anger waves.  But, when a crime like this happens, I don’t see anyone moving a single finger !!!

Do not watch this movie.  If you are thinking of A R Rahamn’s music, believe me, he has created better music before.

Bravo Mr Ak aka Ashly lol!

Yea i dont give a damn for these kind of movies that carry a moral burden waiting to unleash on unsuspecting,& hapless viewers.

I read the review of this on IMDB and didnt think it was worth my immensely precious time.It seems imperative nowadays that as soon as you make a documentary or whatever this kind of genre is it immediately and invariably becomes eligible for some kind of an award, golden globe this time.

A R rahman said that Indians are crazy about Oscars well Mr Rahman i ve got news for you, i am an indian and dont give a donkeys ass pardon me arse it should be, about Oscars. Its people like this who need to be given a proper spanking for behaving like a little kid who just got a peice of cheap candy from his uncle instead of his own father.

All right i think i have vented my fury enough on this besides my though process was suddenly interrupted by someone.

Americans always project India as a poor and hungry country and they get oscars and golden globes for doing that.
I had exactly the same feelings as said by Ashly when I watched this movie. One guy in my office here says that he liked the movie very much. He was laughing at the scene in which that kid jumped into the shit pond. And then he asks me is it really like this India?

I said No. I told him that Americans always project wrong image of India. Our metropolitan cities are no less than New York and Washington DC. I know there are slum areas as shown in movie, but I have seen beggars in America too.. I have seen people living in boxes here also.

He was convinced but he is just one guy. What about the rest of Americans. They all treat us as a Third World and we all are equally responsible for this. What else would they think when they see politicians beating each other with sleepers and police man posing for photo shoot when there was terror attack at bombay.

Uncontrollable population and corruption will never let India rise and we all have to face the brunt. But it sucks when our fellow Indians support these kind of movies and try to rationalize their stand by saying that Mira Nair and Shekhar Kapoor also make these kind of movies. I completely go with Ashly on this, I dont like movies made by anyone (Indian or anyone) if they are conveniently portraying a wrong and disgustingly filthy image of this country. I dont have time to care if some indian people hail US or Americans for that matter, but it certainly pisses me hard and deep when Indian people support this kind of movies.

I would say that we should NOT promote/support someone who is portraying us as a Slum Country. This is the least one can expect, leave aside doing something for the country. If you like America or Americans, learn from them and see how they respect their country.

Ashly,

Thanks for a detailed review, that too with very specific points.I am haivng a thought against this which is closely blended with Jo's post .Movies can be a bit of drama, but why do we ashamed n' restless when the reality strikes as a portrait ?

Hi All,

I received few e-mail about my review, I am adding them too as comment. :( looks like only few people agree with me

Samreet Sing

Well I already have seen this movie...... How would you rate Salaam Bombay then, its even more crude than this in showing slum and life of slim boys in Bombay..........

I think most of the points here are subject to being paranoid, just because it has been directed by a Hollywood director we are like hurt to the limits, had it been directed by say Mira Nair or Sheaker kapoor, it would than had been a cult classics.......

PS: and yes that shit scene could seriously have been avioded.

Tirthadyuti Paul Choudhury

That's true. We wouldn't have bothered if this was made by an Indian. We are not bothered when we see this kind of scenes when we go out of our houses. We wouldn't have bothered even if this movie hadn't got any international acclaim. It showed some naked truth which we try to close our eyes and say, it doen't exists.

I wonder if some Indian Director had made a film out of this Novel what he/she would have shown.

Guys,

SomShekar

Even I saw the movie and let me tell you, the movie rocks. The story, screenplay and cinematography is nothing less than a masterpiece work. Some scenes might be disturbing and lets not refrain from accepting the fact that this is the real scenario in Mumbai slums. And remind you guys, the co-director who picturised most of the movie in mumbai slums is Ms.Loveleen tandon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loveleen_Tandan) an Indian director.

Ashly,
U r jus picking the wrong things out of it. The director always has the freedom to narrate the things, which the story demands. Many of the things are true in india and it *does not* mean that entire india is like this. Its just a matter of common sense

i too agree with your viewpoint. Here is what I have to say about this

hi,

I can understand the emotions you have. There are two facts. One, it is based on a novel and storyline comes from there. It is a movie made for international audience, producers need commercial success and using the well known brands of India is not a bad thing. I don't what you understood from the movie, but many things shown in there are just symbolic. Almost all things you listed here comes in that category.

You might not have any idea about the slums near to Mumbai airport and the situation there. I have been there and i should say, it is one of the first images any foreigner visiting India get. Many things are half truths, but still a lot of things we should accept. Another thing is, all cities in the world has slums and suburbs(i don't know how many know about "projects" usually mentioned in every american movie and tv show). Those places are bad and tough than our slums. So there is nothing bad in accepting that, there are people like this around.

BPO and Film star worship, while former is a myth, latter is a truth to a large extend. Both have huge sales potential. By the way, thieves and story telling guides at tourist places are not a myth. I have encountered both. About car parking in India, situation is much better than many US cities as far as i know.

About other things, we are not talking about average Indian boy's life. It is the life of ones who live in streets of India. Many of your doubts will be cleared, when you see things from that angle. About, 100 Dollar bill and Franklin, the one who answers is not any blind boy. It is not all Indian men, only the ones who are in touch with the hero are cruel or tough. Because, he is from such a background.

About arresting, torture and stuff, it happens and is just the truth. I don't know the situation in Mumbai, but the places from where i come slum dwellers are easy targets and police doesn't need any paper to keep them in illegal custody.

More over, its not any Indian class room, its a class room of school in a slum area. I have been to such schools(in my primary) and i should say, situation like this was there. About the dollar stuff, tourists in India can live here, even if they have only dollars. Anybody will accept them with pleasure.

Slumdog Millionaire uses too many cliches. But many things they show are simply true. But, stories about American or British sum dwellers are worse. I don't remember the names, but lot many movies came out on those too.

Almost all Indian movies are showing the same thing, then why you are criticizing only this movie.

There is no need to generalize the items showed in this film. This movie is all about 2-3 characters. It is not about everyone in INDIA.

Have you seen the Malayalam film CHITHRAM? Mohan Lal fooling the Sayippu out of his wallet and does that mean all Malayalees try to fool Sayippu?? This film ran over one year in Kerala. I didn't read about anyone protesting against that scene.

I could probably ask you a question for all the things you listed down but what is the point?
